One down & one to go.

While she did this...

I finished this.

Call me old fashioned, but I like homemade costumes the best. I tried to use what we already had at the house to create her Mini Mouse costume. The fabric and ribbon came from my ever growing stash. I used a fabulous (and easy I might add) tutorial to make the twirly skirt. The shoes were some from her closet that she no longer wears because of a scuffed toe. I used this tutorial to cover them with yellow fabric. The only thing I had to buy was the black headband to make the ears. She is going to make one cute mouse!

Now on to Caroline's costume. Anna Cate keeps asking if Caroline can be a mermaid, but I was hoping for a little ballerina. We'll see who wins out. ;)

  1. Mary Catherine this is SO cute! I love homemade costumes the best too, but with Baby #2 looming on the horizon, Gracie will just be wearing a Carolina cheerleading outfit she already has. You have inspired me for next year though :o)

  2. Kelli,
That was us last year! I let Anna Cate wear a costume my mom made for when I was little because I had morning sickness so bad and had no energy or desire to be creative.

  3. I read your blog and it helps me realize that I CAN have two babies almost exactly two year apart! I have logged both of the tutorials in my "favorites" and will be using them in the future. Thank you!

  4. Mary Catherine, I saw that shoe tutorial too...i want to try it for my own shoes. Overall how did you feel about it? Your outfit looks adorable!

  5. Dana,
I was actually a little disappointed in the way they turned out! :( I was considering using the idea for Christmas presents to make some cute orange flats for my sisters to wear tailgating next fall, but after my experience with AC's shoes, I don't think I will.

You can't tell from the picture, but you can see some of the pink shoe in different spots through the yellow fabric. It may be easier to do if you have a true ballet flat style shoe that is made from cloth. AC's shoes were a hard vinyl so that may have had an impact on how they turned out. I also couldn't find my exacto knife, so I just used a rotary cutter (bad idea!) so the edges aren't very clean. If you do try it, I'd love to know how your turn out! Good luck! :)
